What a great read! I could NOT put it down! It's so funny and touching and clever.
Not since The Incredible Journey has anybody laughed and cried over the
anthropomorphic antics of three pets.
Chris, Layla, and Mina, two old dogs and a frisky pup, star in this funny
and touching domestic drama, ingeniously told in first person from three
different doggy points of view.
Their own "call of the wild" includes hunting for MouseSomethings, chasing
ThatCat, a sneaky trickster who lords over their new house, and searching
for a lost dog when she can't find the way home.
Anyone who's ever loved a dog will cheer for the BossQueen, Little BigBark,
and the Sentinel Pup.

This charming story describes three dogs that move with their owner, OurShe, to join OurHe, OurBoy, OurGirl, and That Cat to form a new Pack in a new home. Third-person narration begins each action-packed chapter and is followed by sections written in the voices of the eldest dog, Chris, the BossQueen: Layla, who is Second Dog; and Mina, who is the Last Dog. The chatty narrative describes how The Girls work together to do The Job of protecting the human and animal members of their Pack and settle into their new surroundings. There are delightful description's of guarding the house, chasing a mouse, herding cows, and playing games, as well as striking depictions of leadership, cooperation, learning, and grief. With love and support from the Pack, Mina grows from a fearful, timid dog who overcomes the shock of abandonment to a leader well served by her keen observations and sensitivity. There is lots of humor, from The Girls making Puddles to Layla insisting she's a lap dog since her 90 pounds makes her a small Rottweiler. The inventive spellings may deter some, but readers will be rewarded by this keenly observed and artfully crafted tale of canine, human, and feline cohabitation.

Talk about the tail wagging the dog! Debut novelist Sarah Clark Jordan writes an engaging, coming-of-age story centered around friendship, loyalty and adaptation as told from the perspective of three canines. Ms. Jordan not only captures the personalities of the pooches, but offers a charming and insightful look at what drives the pets' thought processes. Her delicate delivery on the topic of grief as a part of life is especially moving. I give it five tail wags and a BigBark.
