The BossQueen, Little BigBark, and the Sentinel Pup tells a story about change, growing up, growing older and female leadership, from the unique perspectives of three dogs.

The dogs along with their owner, OurShe, are moving. Chris and Layla, the two older dogs have moved before, but Mina, the youngest has not. Abandoned by a previous owner, Mina is afraid that something bad will happen again, and their Pack will be disrupted. Unlike the others, she knows that things change, and that change can be frightening.

Once in their new home the dogs discover that their Pack has grown, and they are now responsible for guarding, not only their owner, OurShe, but also her new He, and his two children. The biggest problem arises with the pet cat that believes he rules the house. Despite their desires, the dogs are not allowed to chase him away.

Can the dogs and That Cat live together? Chris, the BossQueen, does not think so and plans to hunt him, and Layla, the Second Dog, agrees and joins the hunt eagerly, but Mina, the Sentinel Pup, sees things differently. She knows that she must find a way for cats and dogs to get along; speak privately with That Cat to find common ground so the Pack can live peaceably; and understand the distinction between mice, baby birds, and pet hamsters to know what is expected of her in regards to protecting the house. But how can Mina the Last Dog in the Pack, and the farthest away from leadership, convince the BossQueen of her bold ideas?

When the BossQueen grows ill and dies, Mina must find a way to fill the void and bring the Pack into the proper Order of Things. With the encouragement of the cat, Mina discovers the leadership role that Chris had been training her for.

This is a book about “Paying Attention” - learning from those who lead before, and teaching those who will follow. It is about female leadership, where all in the group contribute their best skills for the benefit of all.
